Compare and Contrast Paper Review

Good Morning to all:

Sadly to say this might be my last post for a while, I’m not sure if I will take this up again in the future or not.  In this last post we will be discussing my compare and contrast paper I’m turning in later today on the last movies of the hunger games series Mockingjay to the book.  I know I cut it close but timing got away from me between work and struggling to get my words on to paper.  It was hard because I was not only sure of what to put on paper but how I wanted to do the project.  After watching both movies in theaters and reading some of the book again it helped refresh things for me and gave me lots of material to write about.  I did cover a lot of similarities and differences doing the best I could.  I never have an easy time writing any form of paper because English was never my strong subject but I manage to get through it somehow.   This class has been an interesting one and it is sad the semester is coming to a close so soon.  I wish my fellow classmates the best of luck and hope we see each other later down the road.  Until then, reach for the stars and keep dreaming.

Third Media review- Mockingjay Double Feature

      Attention Moviegoers:

I would like to discuss my thoughts and feelings on the conclusion of the Mockingjay part two movie.  I went to see both parts as a double feature and was rather excited about the whole experience.  For going to the double feature each moviegoer received a special lapel pin.  This was the three finger salute district 12 gives their citizens to give their last goodbye and is also considered a sign of admiration.  The first movie was well edited, but in my opinion flowed slowly without a lot of action.  I feel other than some minor things the movie did it’s best to follow the book.  The second part of the movie is where the action picked up and things got interesting.  I did not like some of the parts and characters that was left out o the movie and I also am not sure how I felt about the movie being more focused on Jennifer Lawrence rather than her sharing the spotlight with Woody Harrelson, Elizabeth Banks, Philip Seymour Hoffman and even Julianne Moore.  Those actors had characters that played very crucial parts in the storyline, from what I read there are some people who are upset about it.  Again this part of the series was well edited and had some great special effects.  If you have not read the books it is a great series to get into and even if you have it is worth watching at least once.  The next time we chat I’ll be talking about the Compare and Contrast paper I wrote on the Mockingjay movies verses the Mockingjay book.

New Media Presentation in Review

Good evening to all,

I wanted to take a little time to talk about our very first project the New Media Presentation.  That is a three to five minuet presentation on any form of media of the student’s choice.  The class picked a topic and a day they wanted to present, I happened to go first and decided to give mine on Audible.  That is a wonderful ap that allows you to buy audio books at a discount of course and listen to them on any smart device such as a phone, tablet or even your computer. The ap really helped me when I used to commute and when I came home from Hawaii.  I liked it because I could load the ap on my phone and plug the phone into my Auxiliary port so I could listen through the car speakers.  I like it because there is no CD’s to change, no worries of scratches and skips or even having to worry about batteries for the portable cd player.  I also like the variety of books they have to offer, I mean 180,000 books is a lot to chose from. Clearly Amazon knew what they were doing when they acquired audible.  At the moment I am borrowing my great aunt’s account but soon I hope to set one up for myself.  I was a little nervous when I presented but after it was all said and done I feel I did a good job.  I just hope it made the time requirements.  Until we meet again, I bid you all good night.

Research Project Review

Good Afternoon,

Today I want to talk about the research project I just presented for my introduction to communication media class.  It was on censorship and how it effects the media, well it was more about censorship but that’s beside the point.  I did learn quite a bit about the FCC and how it operates, until I started to put the project together.  Example the way the FCC makes and/or updates rules is with the notice and comment process.  That process is pretty much the FCC announces the change/ adoption then has to wait for comments from the advisory committee.  I have to admit that I was rather nervous to present but for what we had it went alright.  I even found a bleep button to use during the presentation, it was in my mind a good add on to it.  I hope the class enjoyed it and my partner and I get a decent grade.  I’m hoping my next review will be of the new James Bond movie Spectre or Mockingjay Part Two.

Until we meet again,

Sarah.

Better late than never... Second Media Review

Good Afternoon my fellow followers,

I know this is a bit overdue but I really wanted to do a review on a movie I really wanted to see in theaters but had to wait for pay-per-view.  The movie I wanted to review is Jurassic World.  Before I watched the movie I had my reservations about the movie as well as excitement.  I was excited because I really enjoyed the series for the most part.  The things I enjoyed during the movie was the following:

Music
Special effects
The choice of acting talent

The things I am not sure about was the storylines that was going on throughout the movie.  The fact there was a good three storylines going at the same time can get confusing if you don’t pay attention.  One of the storylines really wasn’t clear to me until the kid’s talked about it when they were alone in the park.  Hopefully the next time we meet I will be talking about my research presentation and maybe the new James Bond movie Specter.

Until we meet again….

Media Journal Assignment in Review

Afternon to All:

Today we’re going to discuss the Media Journal project we had to turn in about a week ago.  We had to keep a journal of our media usage for seven consecutive days including what time we used it, what we used, why we used it and for how long we used it.  Then once the journal was completed we had to make a few graphs with the information we collected in the journal.  After we finished the graphs we had to write a three to five page paper discussing our findings with the journal and graphs portion of the project.

All in all I thought it was an interesting project and at the same time a bit of a pain in the neck because of the actual journal entries and deciding what information you want to show with your graphs.  The paper itself was a pretty decent experience once I figured out what I wanted to talk about and how to say it.  Sometimes I know what I want to say, but have a hard time putting it on paper.  I definitely have a new prospective of media and how it effects my life after this project, some of my totals I expected and others I thought to be rather surprising.  I seem to spend a lot of time texting, watching Television, and playing video games.  Those I expected since all I pretty much do is work, go to school and stay home because being broke isn’t fun.  Hopefully I get a decent grade on the assignment and my teacher finds it as interesting as I did. Next time we’ll be discussing my first media review for my intro to communication media class but more about that later.  Have a great rest of the week!

Theater in review

Good Afternoon Everybody:

Instead of talking about an actual movie I’ve decided to discuss the actual theater it is viewed in.  I want to discuss iPic Theaters.  This place isn’t your normal sit down and watch the movie theater.  It’s a theater for the hardcore moviegoer who likes to splurge when it comes to enjoyment.  There is about 13 theaters in the continental united state, mainly Florida, Illinois, Arizona, Texas, California, Washington State and Maryland.   The inside of the actual theater has 2 different types of seating over sized leather arm chairs which is mainly the front few rows which is called premium seating and premium plus seating which is an oversized leather recliner and is the back few rows of the theater.  At the theater there is a membership program that is totally optional but if you’re the person who goes to a lot of movies you might want to consider getting the membership that costs money.  There are 4 levels of membership, but logically the first two are going to be the most important to the typical moviegoer.

  • Purple membership (Free) -discounted members seating, newsletter, email offers, and exclusive Tuesday deals.
  • Sapphire membership ($15 per year.)-Priority ticket purchase, free b-day ticket, free anniversary ticket, access to member events, access to point system that can be used for food, tickets and non-alcoholic drinks and all purple benefits listed above.

If your interested in learning more click on membership to go to the iPic page to read more.

Tickets here are a little different…. There are no matinee or evening prices just member price and non-member price.     Listed below is what comes with each seat type and how much it costs to sit there.

Premium seating- a comfy oversized chair
                Non-member: $14.00
                Member: $11.00

(First two rows in the awful greenish yellow color)

Premium Plus: complementary regular popcorn, blankets, pillows, extra comfortable reserved seats that recline, waiter service at your seat and no internet booking fees.

         Non-member: $14.00 + $10.00*
         Member:  $11.00 + $ 7.00*
(* indicates an upgrade fee is added to ticket)

Parking- At the Bethesda location they have a garage located next to the theater, your ticket covers 3 and a half hours of parking, if you want to stay longer it’s a dollar per hour, which I thought, wasn’t bad at all.

When sitting in the premium plus you can order from alcoholic drinks and food from the iPic Express Menu.  You can either order with your waiter or with the iPad located between your seat..  Personally I don’t know how the food tastes, I went pretty early to see a movie but from what I seen of the food it looked pretty good. I have provided a link to the menu they offer, click on the blue link above.  I hope to go again for Specter and possibly the new star wars.  If your looking for an awesome first date or just an epic movie experience you should try going here to iPic Theaters.

Our next encounter I’ll be talking about my Media Journal project I just got back from being graded.  Until I blog again, keep reaching for the stars and live life to the fullest.
